“荒寒之境”,是中国传统美学的最高境界,在宋画、唐诗宋词这种情境体现的较多,对中国艺术家产生了很大影响,甚至涉及到日本的艺术家的创作风格,近现代大多数日本艺术家整体上主张“物哀”的忧伤风格。
“The Field of Desolation and Cold” is the highest state of Chinese traditional aesthetics, which is reflected in Song paintings, Tang poems and Song poems. It has a great influence on Chinese artists, and even the creation style of Japanese artists. Taoxichuan Jingdezhen International Studio is very pleased to invite Chinese Independent Artist, Xie Shiming. The title of this week’s lecture is “ Nomad Clay ”. The lecture will be held on Wednesday 20:00(BST), June 23, at the lecture hall in Taoxichuan Ceramic Art Avenue Flagship Shop, 2nd floor. At the same time, we will be simulcast on Taoxichuan International online lecture platform.

讲座中,艺术家会与大家一同回顾他游牧式的生活历程,看荒泥是如何从谢老师手中绽放出与万物融合的气象,体现他的艺术表达、主张,在牧歌中,以眼神触碰,以心观照。
In the lecture, the artist will review his nomadic life. Let’s see how to deal with the clay and merge it with everything, which reflects his artistic expression. In the madrigals, let’s touch with eyes and feel with heart.

谢石明Xie Shiming
独立艺术家Independent Artist书法家Calligrapher谢石明,生于荆楚地方,于1989年毕业于湖北美术学院。二十世纪90年代,正逢下海经商的时代大潮席卷而来,他于1995年在广州成立了一家自己的平面设计公司。直到2014年,他放弃商海的沉浮,回归艺术。同年,石明举家北上,定居内蒙古,现在是一名独立艺术家。Xie Shiming, born in Hubei province, graduated from Hubei Academy of Fine Arts in 1989. In the 1990s, he set up his own graphic design company in Guangzhou in 1995. Inl 2014, he gave up his business and returned to art. In the same year, his family moved north and settled in Inner Mongolia. Now he is an independent artist.

谢石明说,他游牧式的生活状态与草原的游牧文化有着异曲同工之处。牧人与牲畜逐水草而居,于他而言,对艺术的追求,就是他心中的水草。内蒙古大草原苍莽的天地,自是他心之所向。向内蒙的移徙,是精神的指引。都说一方水土养一方人。草原的风啊,水呀,浸润滋养着生活在这片土地上的人们。在内蒙的生活,让他的创作之路明朗起来。Xie Shiming said that his nomadic lifestyle is similar to the nomadic culture of the grassland. Herdsmen and animals live by rich land, and for him, the pursuit of art is the ‘rich land’ in his heart. He desires for the vast expanse of Inner Mongolia steppe. It is a spiritual guide to migrate to Inner Mongolia. It is said that one side of the soil and water support a side of people. The wind, water, soil and so on nourish the people who live in this land. Life in Inner Mongolia makes his creative path clear.

Liu Zhou, a native of the Northern Qi Dynasty, said: “The land of cold and desolate where snow accumulates; The mind of generosity where loyalty gather.”

从繁忙的城市,回归心灵的故土,石明的创作语言清晰而坚定。“荒寒之境”,是谢石明贯穿始终的美学追求。荒寒,是中国传统绘画的意境之一,形容一种宁静、寥廓、空灵、萧瑟的氛围,古人常用枯枝、寒鸦、雪松等意象表达这样的氛围。石明对“荒寒之境”有自己的诠释。后荒寒之境,是石明心中的人文情怀。它来自于古典意境与当代思想的碰撞,是“荒寒”在当代的诠释。
From the busy city back to the homeland of the soul, Xie ShiMing’s creative language is clear and firm. Xie Shiming’s aesthetic pursuit is “The Field of Desolation and Cold”. “desolation and cold” is one of the artistic conception of traditional Chinese painting. It describes a tranquil, boundless, ethereal and bleak atmosphere. Ancient people often used images such as deadwood, jackdaw and cedar to express this atmosphere. Xie Shiming has his own interpretation of “The Field of Desolation and Cold”. “Post-The Field of Desolation and Cold” is a kind of humane feeling in the heart of Xie Shiming. It comes from the collision of classical artistic conception and contemporary thought, and is the contemporary interpretation of “desolation and cold”.

“荒泥”是一种材料,是艺术创作的媒介;“荒泥”亦是荒寒语境下的一种精神,是石明对自己的定义。不论是荒寒之境还是荒泥,“荒”绝不局限于荒芜,而是尚未开拓的无人之境,孕育着无限可能。
On the one hand, “Clay” is a kind of material and the medium of artistic creation. On the other, “Clay” is a kind of spirit in the field of desolation and cold. It is also used by Xie Shiming to define himself. Desolation is the unexplored territory of no one, which is pregnant with infinite possibilities.

自2017年,他在景德镇初次接触陶瓷材料,到今天,也经历了重新认识创作媒介的过程。石明基于粘土的创作,从刻绘的形式入手,将绘画元素转化为陶瓷语言。随后的创作中,他深入对陶瓷材料的研究,从器型塑造,表现技法,到釉料烧制,他将繁琐的工艺融会贯通。
In 2017, he first encountered ceramic materials in Jingdezhen. And today he has experienced the process of re-understanding creative media. Xie Shiming’s creation transforms painting elements into ceramic language, which is based on clay and starts with the form of engraving. In his subsequent creation, he goes deep into the study of ceramic materials. From molding, performance techniques to glaze firing, he handled all the tedious processes.

他不仅对材料的运用得心应手,而且为创作过程中不可预见的美所折服。因此他跳脱程式化的表达,重视每次创作的实验性。不落窠臼,进无止境。在他游刃有余的创作中,粘土的特性被无限放大,最终完成泥性的回归。
Adept at using materials and impressed by the unforeseen beauty of the creative process, he therefore eschews stylized expression and emphasizes experimentation in each creation. He keeps innovating and improving. In his creative work, the characteristics of clay are magnified and eventually come back to the nature of clay.
